Every real estate project, be it in the Comox Valley or anywhere else, starts with the ground — and that’s what we focus on.

At Edgett Excavating, for more than 5 decades, we’ve helped homeowners, builders, and developers across the island prepare their sites for what comes next.

Sometimes it means clearing a small lot for a single home, and other times it could be digging foundations, installing underground utilities, or preparing an entire subdivision.

Whatever the job, we bring in the right equipment and local experience to get it done safely and on schedule.

We know the challenges of working with Vancouver Island terrain, and we always plan ahead so the project runs smoothly, without costly delays.

From hydro excavation to land clearing and shoreline protection, we make sure your site is ready for the next stage of building.

Hydro Excavation

safe digging for utilities and foundations

We use hydrovac excavation to safely expose utilities, services, and foundations without damaging existing lines.

This method is ideal for tight sites, older neighbourhoods, and congested streets across the Comox Valley where accuracy and safety matter. Our crews work cleanly and efficiently so other trades can get in and keep your project moving.

Subdivision Development

full site prep for new neighborhoods

From first cut to final grading, we handle the full excavation scope for new subdivisions.

Our team coordinates clearing, roads, utilities, and stormwater features so each phase lines up with your engineering plans and municipal requirements.

The result is a serviced site that’s ready for builders, not delays.

Land Clearing & Site Prep

residential and commercial projects

Whether it’s a new home site, shop, or commercial building, we clear brush and trees, strip topsoil, and shape the site to grade.

Our operators work carefully around existing structures and services, with a focus on drainage and access so construction can start on solid ground.

Utility Installations

water, sewer, and underground services

We trench and install underground services for water, sanitary, storm, and other utilities across the Comox Valley.

Our crews work with your engineers and local authorities to maintain proper depths, bedding, and backfill so lines are protected and compliant from day one.

Beach Armouring & Erosion Control

protecting waterfront properties in the Valley

Waterfront sites demand extra care.

We install rock armouring and other erosion control measures to help protect shorelines from storms, tides, and ongoing wear.

Our team understands local conditions and permitting requirements, and works to stabilize banks while maintaining access and usability.

Demolition Contracting

safe removal of existing structures

When an old structure needs to come down, we manage demolition with a focus on safety, dust control, and proper disposal.

From small outbuildings to larger commercial structures, we plan each step so the site is left clean, secure, and ready for the next phase of work.

Edgett Excavating proudly announces the successful launch of the Holiday Inn Express on Hunt Road in Courtenay.

This project was successful because of the strong teamwork to overcome the complex challenges that came with this project.

As a subcontractor to Sargent Construction, we self-performed the civil scope of this hotel development project, which included site grading, a new domestic water and fire protection water service, sanitary sewer and storm drainage.

We worked with Osprey Electric on the installation of underground, concrete-encased BC Hydro ducts.

We worked with Tayco Paving for on-site and off-site asphalt paving, sidewalk enhancements, curbs, and gutters.

What Our Clients Say

Frequently Asked Questions

For any questions or enquiry feel free to Call us or Schedule an appointment.

Do you handle both residential and commercial excavation in the Comox Valley?

Yes. We work with homeowners, builders, and developers on projects of all sizes. That includes single-home sites, multi-lot subdivisions, commercial buildings, and municipal work throughout the Comox Valley.

Our crew and equipment lineup let us match the right resources to each job.

How does hydrovac excavation help on my project?

Hydrovac excavation uses high-pressure water and vacuum to dig around utilities and structures without using a bucket or teeth.

It’s especially useful in older Comox Valley neighbourhoods and busy streets where underground lines aren’t fully mapped.

Hydrovac reduces the risk of damaging services and helps keep the site safer for everyone.

Can you work on waterfront or steep properties?

Yes. We regularly work on waterfront lots, sloped sites, and challenging terrain across the Comox Valley and Vancouver Island.

Our team plans access, erosion control, and material handling ahead of time so work is done safely and in line with local requirements.

Do you help with permits and coordination?

We can coordinate with your engineer, builder, and local authorities to make sure excavation and servicing work follows the approved plans.

While permits are typically applied for by the owner or designer, we’re happy to provide project details and support where needed.

How soon should I contact you before starting construction?

It’s best to involve us early, as soon as you have a concept plan or drawings.

That gives us time to review access, soil conditions, and utilities, and to schedule equipment and crews.

Early planning helps avoid surprises and keeps your project on schedule once machines are on site.
